Technical Specifications Of Utility Blade Blades

Utility blades are available in three thicknesses: 0.4 mm, 0.5 mm, and 0.6 mm. Utility knives, also known as carving knives or wallpaper knives, are used for cutting and crafting. They are primarily used to cut soft materials and usually consist of a plastic handle and a blade, with a pull-out design.

A few have metal handles. The blade is typically beveled, allowing it to be broken along the scoring lines when dull, creating a new, easier-to-use edge. Normally, only the tip of the blade is used; cutting, carving, and marking are the primary functions.

However, the blade is brittle, so it should not be extended excessively. The hardness and durability of the blade also vary depending on the material. Many utility knives have bend lines for easier breaking, but these can be dangerous for left-handed users; caution should be exercised when using them.

Utility blade material: Utility blades are made of high-carbon steel strip, precision-ground, and argon-quenched. The blade is hard yet not brittle, sharp and durable, suitable for cutting materials such as leather, rubber, and plastic.

Utility blades are more than twice as durable as ordinary blades. Most utility blades in China use 60# steel, which should be classified as high-carbon steel with a carbon content of approximately 0.6%. Within a specific range, the higher the carbon content of the steel, the higher its hardness after heat treatment. Combined with precision grinding, the blade is extremely sharp.
